Social media is essential for building a personal brand, and one of the most rewarding platforms is Pinterest.

Many people mistakenly believe that Pinterest is only useful for visually-oriented brands, but in reality, anyone can build their personal brand using it.

More and more people are using Pinterest to interact with the companies they like, and some are even using it to make purchase decisions.

Define Your Brand Values

The first step to using Pinterest successfully is to define your brand’s values and strategy.

This is what determines everything that comes after.

Decide what you most want to communicate to your audience.

As part of this strategic planning, decide what visual elements will define your brand so that your Pinterest presence can reflect this.

Create a Business Account

If you don’t already have one, create a Pinterest business account.

Although you can use a personal account effectively for branding, a business account offers insight into analytics.

As you start posting content and interacting with others through the platform, you’ll need these analytics to tell you whether your efforts are paying off.

Complete Your Profile

Fill out your profile completely.

Each bit of your profile is a precious space where you can further communicate your personal brand.

After you complete your profile, go back and review it.

Make sure that there isn’t anything inconsistent or “off-brand.”

What to Share on Pinterest

Pinterest allows you to “pin” content to boards.

There are many different things you can pin, including:

  • New products that you offer
  • Content you’ve created such as articles, blog posts, books, or images
  • Photos of you speaking, attending events, or giving presentations
  • Infographics that present statistics related to your niche
  • Quotes to inspire your audience or get them thinking
  • “Behind the scenes” images of your brand and the people who make it happen
  • Lists and resources to point your audience to further useful information

As you can see from the above list, everything doesn’t have to be strictly informational or aimed at solving problems.

Take this opportunity to offer some fun and personal content to keep your followers engaged. That’s all part of your personal brand.

Where to Get Ideas

If you’re new to Pinterest or just getting started branding there, follow some other businesses and see what type of content they post.

You’ll get ideas for what you can share, as well as find things they’re not sharing. You can then fill these gaps.

Post Content Regularly

Get into a routine of pinning new material consistently.

Your audience will expect regular content from you, and consistency is important for building a strong brand.

Decide how often and how much you’re capable of publishing.

If you’re too busy, hire someone else to handle your Pinterest presence for you.

Integrate Pinterest with Your Marketing

Make sure to integrate Pinterest with your other marketing outlets.

Put a “Pin it” button on your website and cross-share your Pinterest content on other social media channels, your blog, and wherever else you’re interacting with your audience online.
